Nelson County Animal Shelter
Our Mission
At the Nelson County Animal Shelter, our mission is to ensure that every animal who walks through our doors experiences nothing but love, care, and kindness. We are a dedicated team committed to providing a safe haven for animals while striving to give each one a well-deserved second chance at a happy life.
Our Commitment to Care
As an open admission shelter, we serve our community by assisting with homeless, neglected, or abandoned animals. We work tirelessly to create positive outcomes for those in our care, utilizing a network of both in-state and out-of-state rescue partners to ensure our animals find the best possible futures. Our partnership with the Humane Society of Nelson County is a cornerstone of our success, helping us provide essential medical services, foster programs, and life-saving transportation to northern rescue organizations.
Your Role in Our Journey
We believe that adoption is a joyful partnership built on finding the perfect fit for both pets and families. Our staff works closely with potential adopters through an application process designed to ensure every pet finds a safe, compatible, and responsible home. When you choose to adopt, you are not just bringing home a companion; you are participating in a compassionate community effort to reduce pet overpopulation and save lives.
