Barktown Rescue is dedicated to providing homeless animals with second chances through a compassionate, no-kill model of care and adoption. We believe every animal deserves a stable, loving forever home where they can flourish as a cherished member of the family.
Founded in 2009, Barktown Rescue began when two volunteers recognized an urgent need to save adoptable dogs from euthanasia in Nelson County. What started as a small local effort has grown into a vibrant network of more than 80 volunteers and foster families working tirelessly to provide care and support for animals in need.
Operating as a non-profit organization with no city, state, or federal funding, our success relies entirely on the generosity of our community. We provide a nurturing environment where our dogs are showered with love while they wait for their perfect match. From medical care to daily enrichment, every decision we make is centered on the health, safety, and long-term happiness of the animals in our care.
Choosing to adopt is a life-changing decision that brings unconditional love and joy into your home. We strive to make thoughtful, lasting matches, ensuring that both you and your new companion are set up for a lifetime of success together. Our team is here to support you through the transition and answer any questions you may have about welcoming a new pet into your life.
Are you ready to find your next loyal companion? We invite you to view our currently adoptable pets on our website and fill out an online application to begin the process. We look forward to helping you make a difference by opening your heart and home to an animal in need.
