Founded in 1989, the Somerset-Pulaski County Humane Society is dedicated to transforming the lives of animals in need through rescue, community education, and the active promotion of spay/neuter programs. We believe that even small acts of kindness create lasting change, offering hope, comfort, and a brighter future for the cats and dogs in our community.
Seeing a need for energetic animal advocacy, we began our journey over three decades ago. Today, we operate as a 100% volunteer-led, nonprofit organization committed to providing a loving environment for every animal that comes through our doors, ensuring they receive the care and socialization they deserve.
Unlike a traditional shelter, we operate primarily through a dedicated foster-based network. By housing our animals in private homes, we provide them with the safety, comfort, and socialization required to successfully transition into a permanent family. We also offer low-cost spay/neuter services at our facility on Chris Way to help manage community animal populations humanely.
We view our adopters as vital partners in the rescue process. Because we prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of our animals, our thoughtful matching process—which includes vet references and home checks—ensures that every pet finds the perfect, lifelong home. We are here to support you in finding a companion that truly complements your lifestyle and commitment.
Are you ready to find your new best friend or support our lifesaving work? We invite you to view our adoptable pets, apply to become a foster parent, or join our community of supporters. Together, we can continue to give second chances and create happy tails for animals in need.
