Our Mission
Northshore Humane Society is dedicated to enhancing and saving the lives of pets in the Northshore region through community engagement, adoption, spay and neuter programs, and sheltering. Our ultimate vision is to lay the foundation for a no-kill nation.
Who We Are
Since 1953, we have been working to help neglected and abandoned animals across the region. Today, we are proud to be one of Louisiana’s largest independent, non-governmental animal welfare organizations, operating without tax funding and relying entirely on the support of compassionate people like you.
How We Help
As a no-kill rescue, we provide a safe, nurturing environment for homeless animals while they wait for their forever homes. Our care model combines our shelter facility with a dedicated network of foster families who open their homes to animals that are too young, scared, or in need of extra attention to thrive in a kennel environment.

9/18 - Northshore Humane Society hosts fundraiser for new facility
COVINGTON – Northshore Humane Society hosted a special fundraiser breakfast Thursday, Sept. 3, at Tchefuncta Country Club, bringing together elected officials, candidates for public office, business leaders and community supporters
8/25 - A shelter is alive with animals and people
No southeast Louisiana animal shelter has all the space and supplies needed to provide humane care for the ever-growing population of homeless animals, primarily the result of people not spaying
8/7 - Northshore Humane Society to provide discounted wellness care
The Northshore Humane Society expects to provide reduced-cost, preventive care to some 200 local pets during a two-day Community Paw-tection Special on Aug. 19 and Aug. 26.
5/26 - Northshore Humane Society receives 3 community honors
COVINGTON— Northshore Humane Society has been recognized with three distinguished community awards in 2026, highlighting the organization’s continued commitment to lifesaving animal welfare work and exceptional veterinary care.
5/20 - Celebrating National Rescue Dog Day!
The Northshore Humane Society introduced us to an adoptable dog and shared tips on what to know ahead of getting a four-legged friend.
10/14 - Still on cloud nine after our best Unleashed Gala yet! 🥂✨ We’re looking back on an incredible evening filled with amazing people, delicious food, unforgettable memories, and so much love for the animals who need us most. 10/14 - POV: You’re trying to get Happy Hades to look at the camera, but he’s here for cuddles, not content 😂🐾 This mostly blind, 5-year-old boy doesn’t let his vision slow him down! He’s goofy, super sweet, does well with other dogs, and LOVESSSS love. 💛 A generous supporter has covered his adoption fee! 10/3 - Minnie had the best time with the YAP Club at Magnolia Trace Elementary School! Our adoptable pup, Minnie, stopped by to teach the kids all about responsible pet care, the importance of adoption, and the many ways they can get involved with Northshore Humane Society! 🐶🏠 After the meeting, the kids put their love into action by making special treat bags for our shelter dogs! 🦴🐾 It was a wonderful afternoon of learning, giving back and, of course, plenty of puppy love! The kids and Minnie absolutely loved their visit! ❤️ Thank you, YAP Club, for welcoming us and helping make a difference for animals in our community!

9/28 - SPECIAL NEEDS PUP ZION HAS BEEN ADOPTED BY NOT ONE, BUT TWO ADOPTERS!! Zion first came to us paralyzed after being attacked by another dog and left untreated. His road to recovery has been anything but easy, but through it all, Zion has continued to show just how strong and deserving of love he is. Over the past year, his incredible foster families have stepped up for him time and time again, NEVER giving up on this much-deserving guy. We couldn’t be happier to report that his foster families have decided to co-adopt him! 🥹💛 Thank you to the amazing people who opened their hearts and homes to Zion and never gave up on him. Thank you to the community who supported his journey!! Congratulations Zion on finding your forever families!! 🎉
