Our Mission
Metairie Humane is dedicated to connecting humans with pet companions destined to be a lifetime love affair. Our goal is to provide a safe, loving environment for homeless or abandoned dogs as they await their permanent families.
How We Started
Founded by a group of concerned long-term Metairie residents, Metairie Humane was born from a desire to improve the lives of dogs in our community. We strive to enhance the quality of life for homeless pets in the Metairie and Greater New Orleans area, ensuring that every dog in our care receives the dignity and consideration they deserve.
Our Commitment to Care
We are proud to be a true no-kill shelter. Because we are run entirely by volunteers with no paid staff and no corporate sponsors, every donation, grant, and prize goes directly toward the care and well-being of our dogs. If a dog cannot be adopted, they remain with us as a permanent, cherished resident for the rest of their life.

Our process involves a personalized meet-and-greet in our Bark Park to ensure a comfortable introduction for both the dog and the potential adopter. Our dedicated Adoption Committee carefully reviews every application to help facilitate a joyful, successful transition into your home.

10/2 - Richelle got this video yesterday of Chef and Menteur of our New Orleans playing in the Bark Park!! As y’all remember they are two of our New Orleans East Trio that were in the wire kennel for eight days. Chef will be leaving in a few weeks when her mom gets back from a trip and she is excited for this new chapter. Menteur is still waiting for family to realize he is still here waiting for them!!
