Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana
Our Mission
The Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana is dedicated to transforming dogs' lives from hopelessness and homelessness to happily-ever-after. Our mission is to provide care, healing, and a path to a loving home for the dogs in our community.
Our Story
Established in August of 1997 by a group of dedicated volunteers, our organization was formed to address the urgent needs of animals in the Shreveport area. As a local 501(c)(3) no-kill shelter, we strive to reduce the number of animals unnecessarily euthanized in local facilities through spay/neuter initiatives, community outreach, and education.
How We Operate
We are a local, dog-only rescue that functions entirely through the hard work of our compassionate volunteers and the generosity of our supporters. Because we are an all-volunteer-based organization, we operate our shelter by appointment only. We rely solely on the support of our community to provide the daily care, medical treatment, and love that our dogs receive while waiting for their perfect match.
Finding Your Best Friend
At the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana, we specialize in helping you connect with a canine companion that perfectly fits your lifestyle, interests, and ideals. Our volunteers are here to answer your questions and guide you through the process, ensuring that every adoption is a joyful, lifelong partnership. We take great care in getting to know our dogs so we can help you find a pet who will thrive in your home environment.
