Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue

Our Mission

Steinbach & Area Animal Rescue is dedicated to providing care, comfort, and compassion to homeless and abandoned companion animals. We aim to secure lifelong, loving homes for every animal that comes into our care.

Our Story

Since our founding in 2013, we have served the southeast of Manitoba with a commitment to animal welfare. As an organization driven by our community, we have grown significantly over the years to help hundreds of animals find their second chance at happiness.

How We Help

We are a nearly 100% volunteer-based, non-profit organization. Rescued animals are lovingly housed in both foster settings and within our dedicated facility at 39 Keating Road, where our volunteers work tirelessly to ensure every pet receives the support they need while awaiting their next chapter.

10/24 - Jovie was recently surrendered to Southeast Vet Clinic, and when they reached out to ask if we could take her into our care, we didn’t hesitate for a second. Of course we said YES! Jovie was hit by a car. She has a broken leg, many sore muscles, and a long road to recovery ahead of her. Despite everything she’s been through, Jovie is an absolute sweetheart. It’s heartbreaking to think of the pain she’s endured, but thankfully, she’s now safe and surrounded by people who will do everything they can to help her heal. Her recovery will take time, patience, and veterinary care, and we could really use your help. If you’d like to donate toward Jovie’s medical expenses: ❤️ Website: steinbachanimalrescue.com ❤️ E-transfer: donate.saar@gmail.com Please include “Jovie” in the e-transfer memo so your donation can go directly toward her care. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. Thank you for helping us continue to say YES to animals who need us most. Because of your generosity, animals like Jovie get the second chance they so desperately deserve. Hang in there, sweet Jovie. Your brighter days are just beginning. 🐾💕 https://steinbachanimalrescue.com/donate/

10/13 - It takes a village, and we are so incredibly grateful for ours! ❤️ Our amazing volunteers have been hard at work giving the rescue a much-needed deep clean! It’s not always the glamorous side of animal rescue, but it’s one of the most important. Every scrubbed floor, sanitized kennel, and freshly cleaned space helps us provide a healthier, safer environment for the animals in our care. Rescue isn’t just about saving lives. It’s about all the hard work, dedication, and love that goes into caring for them every single day. A huge THANK YOU to our volunteers who continue to show up, roll up their sleeves, and make a difference. We couldn’t do this without you! 💙🐾 #steinbachanimalrescue #saar #animalwelfare #adoptdontshop

9/30 - Cerebellar hypoplasia (CH) in cats is a neurological condition where the cerebellum—the part of the brain responsible for balance, coordination, and smooth movement—doesn’t fully develop. You’ll often hear these cats called “wobbly cats.” It usually happens before birth or shortly afterward. One common cause is when a pregnant mother cat is infected with feline panleukopenia virus, which can interfere with development of the kittens’ cerebellum. Typical signs become obvious once kittens start trying to walk, usually around 2–3 weeks old. You may notice: * A wobbly or wide-legged walk * Falling or tipping over * Head or body tremors, especially when concentrating on eating or playing * Overshooting the food bowl or toys * Difficulty jumping or climbing * More dramatic movements when excited or trying to do something precise One really important thing about CH is that it usually does not hurt the cat, it isn’t contagious, and it generally doesn’t get progressively worse. Their coordination may actually appear to improve as they grow because they learn how to compensate. CH can range from mild to severe. A mildly affected cat might just walk funny and occasionally fall over. A moderately affected cat may need low-sided litter boxes, non-slip flooring and easier access to food and water. Severely affected cats may have significant difficulty walking or eating independently and require much more assistance. Many CH cats can have very happy, normal-length lives. They generally understand what’s happening around them normally—the issue is primarily their ability to coordinate their movements
