D'Arcy's Animal Rescue Centre

A Second Chance for Every Pet

D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Centre is dedicated to giving stray and abandoned cats and dogs in Manitoba a second chance through compassionate care and responsible, lifelong adoption.

Our Story

Founded by D’Arcy Johnston in 1998, our rescue began in a family basement before growing into one of Western Canada’s largest for-life animal shelters. Over the past 25 years, our community-funded organization has remained committed to the belief that every healthy and treatable animal deserves a home, regardless of how long it takes to find the right match.

A Commitment to Quality Care

Our work is built on the philosophy that animals are not disposable; we provide for the medical, emotional, and physical needs of every animal in our care. Through a combination of our Century Street shelter, a dedicated foster network, and our unique Annie’s Attic thrift store and cat café, we ensure that animals remain safe and comfortable until they find their permanent families.

A Partnership for Life

Adoption is a lifelong commitment, and we are here to support you at every step of that journey. We believe in thoughtful matching, taking the time to understand your lifestyle and the personality of our animals to ensure your new best friend is the perfect fit for your household.

Start Your Journey Today

Whether you are ready to adopt, interested in volunteering, or want to learn more about our upcoming events, we invite you to be part of our mission. Visit our adoptables online or stop by the centre today to help us write the next chapter for an animal in need.

10/7 - We’ve been at capacity for months, and with so many cats in our care, our supplies are running low faster than we can keep up. Right now, we urgently need: • Clumping cat litter • Cans of wet cat food We could also use: • Bleach • Dishwasher tabs • Medical gloves • Mr. Clean Multi-Surface Disinfectant If you’re able to donate, even one item makes a real difference. Donations can be dropped off at our shelter (730 B Century St) or shipped to us via our Amazon Wishlist. We’re so grateful for everyone who continues to show up for these cats and help us keep going 💚 #DArcysARC #winnipeg

10/3 - We said goodbye to Monsieur La’Frog on Tuesday. Monsieur La’Frog, our 8-year-old Shelter Manager, passed away Tuesday from complications related to diabetes. He first came to us as a stray in January 2025 and was eventually adopted. When his adopter decided they didn’t want to take him to the vet to find out what was wrong, Monsieur came back to us last June. We’ll always wonder what might have been different if he had received care sooner. When he returned, we did what we could. We spent more than $3,000 on emergency care, testing, and medications to give him the care he needed. And while he was with us, he gave something back. Monsieur La’Frog officially worked at the adoption desk. He kept us company, greeted every person who walked through our doors with a gentle meow, and somehow made a difficult job feel a little lighter just by being there. He deserved better. We couldn’t change what happened before he came back to us, but we could make sure he was loved, cared for, and never had to wonder if someone was coming for him. If you’d like to honour Monsieur La’Frog, please consider making a donation in his memory. Your donation helps us say yes to the next cat who comes through our doors needing surgery, medication, a second chance, or simply someone willing to fight for them. Monsieur deserved better. And so do they. Donate now: https://darcysarc.ca/how-you-can-help/ #DArcysARC
