The Winnipeg Humane Society

Our Mission

For more than 132 years, the Winnipeg Humane Society has been dedicated to protecting animals from suffering while promoting their welfare and dignity. We are driven by a simple, powerful vision: all animals deserve to be treated humanely.

Our Journey

Founded in 1894, we are Manitoba's oldest animal shelter and welfare organization. From our early days as a group of concerned citizens to our modern 40,000 square foot facility at 45 Hurst Way, our history is built on compassion and an enduring commitment to the animals of our community.

How We Care

We provide food, medical care, and love to more than 10,000 animals each year. Our facility operates with empathy at its core, utilizing a dedicated shelter clinic and a vital foster program that allows animals to recover in safe, home-like environments while waiting for their forever families. We are also committed to keeping pets with their original families through our Pet Food Bank, behaviour resources, and emergency support services.

Connecting You with a Friend

Adoption is the start of a beautiful, lifelong partnership. We believe in thoughtful matching, ensuring every pet finds a home perfectly suited to their unique personality and needs. When you adopt, you are not just getting a pet; you are giving a deserving animal a well-earned second chance.

10/7 - ***update: adopted!*** Meet Yuki a four year-old girl who hasn’t had any adoption interest yet. Yuki came to @whsanimals in August and then spent four weeks in foster care to gain weight. ‘Yuki’ commonly means snow - which fits a pup that looks to be mostly Husky. It also can mean happiness, good fortune, and courage - which suits this pup perfectly. 🩷 Breaking pups like Yuki out of the shelter for a fun Sniff & Shop session at @globalongrant is the best way to spoil a pup and get a peek at who the pup really is. Away from the shelter, Yuki is a curious, smart, happy, and calm girl who thinks treats & cuddles are always a good idea. She is careful when first meeting new people and then warms to instant BFFs quickly. Yuki does the cutest bunny hops when she’s chasing a ball and loves to play Sniff Hide and Seek to find treats hidden in nooks and crannies. Given the choice, Yuki chooses treats over toys, and loving over treats. 🥰 For anyone looking to add a beautiful young lady their family …..please consider Yuki. 🌸 Thank you to @globalongrant & Nik for hosting and spoiling Yuki today. 🫶 Yuki is available for adoption with @whsanimals 🩷 #adoptme #winnipeghumanesociety #sometimesthegoodonesgetoverlooked ☀️
