The Winnipeg Humane Society

Our Mission

For more than 132 years, the Winnipeg Humane Society has been dedicated to protecting all animals from suffering and promoting their welfare and dignity. We believe that all animals deserve to be treated humanely, and we work every day to ensure they receive a second chance at a happy life.

A Legacy of Compassion

Founded in 1894 by a group of forward-thinking citizens, we are the oldest animal shelter and welfare organization in Manitoba. From our early days of ensuring proper treatment for working animals to our current 40,000 square-foot facility on Hurst Way, our history is built on the unwavering commitment of our community to care for our most vulnerable companions.

How We Help

Operating from our primary shelter and supported by a robust network of foster parents, we provide medical care, nutrition, and behavioral support to more than 10,000 animals each year. We also focus on keeping families together through community services like our Pet Food Bank, low-cost veterinary clinics, and our behavior helpline, ensuring that pets remain in their loving homes whenever possible.

Your New Best Friend

Adoption is a joyful journey, and our team is committed to making meaningful matches that last a lifetime. We take the time to understand each animal’s unique personality and needs to ensure they find the perfect fit for your family and lifestyle.

10/7 - ***update: adopted!*** Meet Yuki a four year-old girl who hasn’t had any adoption interest yet. Yuki came to @whsanimals in August and then spent four weeks in foster care to gain weight. ‘Yuki’ commonly means snow - which fits a pup that looks to be mostly Husky. It also can mean happiness, good fortune, and courage - which suits this pup perfectly. 🩷 Breaking pups like Yuki out of the shelter for a fun Sniff & Shop session at @globalongrant is the best way to spoil a pup and get a peek at who the pup really is. Away from the shelter, Yuki is a curious, smart, happy, and calm girl who thinks treats & cuddles are always a good idea. She is careful when first meeting new people and then warms to instant BFFs quickly. Yuki does the cutest bunny hops when she’s chasing a ball and loves to play Sniff Hide and Seek to find treats hidden in nooks and crannies. Given the choice, Yuki chooses treats over toys, and loving over treats. 🥰 For anyone looking to add a beautiful young lady their family …..please consider Yuki. 🌸 Thank you to @globalongrant & Nik for hosting and spoiling Yuki today. 🫶 Yuki is available for adoption with @whsanimals 🩷 #adoptme #winnipeghumanesociety #sometimesthegoodonesgetoverlooked ☀️
