The Worcester County Humane Society is dedicated to providing compassionate sheltering with a focus on animal well-being. Our core mission is to provide adoption services, low-cost spay and neuter resources, and comprehensive programming for the pets and people who love them in our community.
Formed in 1976 by a group of citizens concerned with animal welfare, we have operated as a no-kill shelter since our very beginning. While we maintain a long-standing partnership with the town of Ocean City, we are a private, not-for-profit organization and do not receive funding from any national organization or the county government.
We serve the animals and citizens of Worcester County through our private, no-kill facility, where our primary goal is to optimize the health and welfare of every pet in our care. Beyond our shelter, we actively work to reduce animal overpopulation by operating a low-cost spay and neuter clinic and a community pet food pantry. We rely heavily on the support of private donors, grants, and our thrift store to continue this vital work.
We believe in creating a healthy and happy match between our animals and their new families. Our thoughtful adoption process, which includes supervised meet-and-greets where necessary, ensures that every pet finds a home where they can thrive. When you adopt from us, you aren't just getting a pet; your adoption fee supports the health, testing, and care of the many animals waiting for their own second chance.
Are you ready to meet your new best friend? We invite you to view our live list of adoptable pets on our website or visit us in Berlin to start your journey. Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or become a member, your involvement helps us reach our ultimate goal: a community where every animal is cherished and well-cared for.
