The Animal Care Shelter for Kent County serves the Eastern Shore and beyond by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need. We promote compassion and responsibility through education, advocacy, and affordable services.
Founded in 1962 as the Humane Society of Kent County, we have dedicated decades to the welfare of animals in our community. In 2022, we opened a modern, purpose-built, five-acre facility to better serve the needs of the hundreds of dogs, cats, and small mammals who come through our doors each year.
As Kent County’s only open-admission shelter, we are committed to providing food, medical attention, and love to every animal until they find their permanent home. We are proud to be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that saves lives without euthanizing for breed, space, or time. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers ensures every pet receives individualized attention and the care they deserve while they wait for their new families.
At the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County, we believe that adoption is a joyful partnership that gives every animal a second chance at life. Because many of our animals are waiting for the perfect match, our coordinators work to help you understand their unique personalities and needs. We encourage you to be patient and ready to open your heart to a new companion who will bring years of love to your home.
Your journey to finding a new best friend starts here. We invite you to visit our website to browse our adoptable animals or come see us at our shelter on Worton Road. Whether you are ready to adopt, volunteer, or simply learn more, we are here to help you make a difference in the life of a pet.
