Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County
Our Mission
The Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving animal welfare in Montgomery County, Maryland. We achieve this by operating a no-kill shelter for adoptable cats and actively promoting responsible pet ownership throughout our community.
Our Story
Founded in 2005 as a small storefront, we have grown into our current home in Old Town Gaithersburg, established in 2010. For over twenty years, we have stayed true to our goal of providing a safe haven for cats in need, successfully finding loving homes for more than 3,000 feline companions.
Our Care Model
We pride ourselves on providing a home-like environment rather than a traditional shelter, ensuring our cats feel comfortable and relaxed. Our cage-free facility features walk-in transition enclosures and communal rooms filled with cat trees, toys, and feline friends to keep our residents stimulated. As an all-volunteer organization, we prioritize the individual health and well-being of every cat in our care.
Finding Your Perfect Match
We believe that adopting a cat is a joyful partnership that should last a lifetime, which is why we take great care in matching each animal’s personality with the unique needs of your family. Our team evaluates temperament, energy levels, and history to ensure a successful, permanent placement. Because we strive to make the right match, our thoughtful, volunteer-driven process ensures that your new family member is the perfect addition to your home.
