Our Mission
At the Humane Society of Calvert County, our mission is to provide compassionate care, shelter, and advocacy for homeless and at-risk animals while striving to find them loving, permanent homes. We work tirelessly to create a brighter future for the animals in our care, one paw at a time.

As a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, we serve as a dedicated community resource for animals in need. We believe that every dog deserves a second shot at happiness, regardless of its past circumstances, and we are committed to fostering a culture of kindness and respect throughout our community.
How We Help
Our organization provides a safe haven for approximately 350 dogs annually at our facility in Sunderland, MD. Our team works to rescue animals, provide necessary medical care and rehabilitation, and prepare our furry residents for their forever homes. Beyond daily care, we are also passionate about educating our community on responsible pet ownership and promoting spay/neuter programs.

10/16 - 🐾🤍 PANDA IS READY FOR HER NEXT BIG ADVENTURE! 🤍🐾 Meet Panda, a gorgeous Husky with the looks, the brains, and the personality to make one lucky person a VERY happy dog parent! 😍 At 2 years and 10 months old and 67 pounds, Panda has a lot going for her! She's friendly, well-behaved, trained, crate trained, house trained, gets along well with other dogs, and LOVES to play. Talk about a great package! 🐶💕 But Panda isn't looking to spend her days watching the world go by. This girl is ready to GET OUT THERE! 🏞️ She'd make an awesome walking or hiking partner, a fun companion for weekend adventures, and a best friend who's always happy to join you. 10/16 - 🤎🐾 A LITTLE SPEED, A LOT OF SWEETNESS, AND A GIRL NAMED POCUS! Pocus loves her zoomies and especially her snuggle time beside her people. 😂❤️ This beautiful brindle girl loves to stretch her legs and run like the wind, chase a ball, and get into a good game of tug-of-war. But when she's had her fun? She'll happily come settle right beside you, whether that's sitting pretty or stretching out for a little downtime together. And honestly, that sounds like a pretty wonderful companion to have around! 🥰 Pocus is just 1 year and 2 months old, weighs 49 pounds, and is working on her leash-walking skills. She's a sweet girl with a playful spirit, a gorgeous brindle coat, and so much life ahead of her. What she doesn't have yet is a person to call her own. Imagine being the one who takes her on walks, tosses her favorite toy, laughs at her silly antics, and eventually becomes the person she looks for when she's ready to relax. MORE LIKE A MILLION REASONS TO LOVE HIM! 🐾🤍 Whoever said Zero was a “0” clearly didn’t get to know this boy! 😂 Because let us tell you… Zero is the TOTAL PACKAGE! 💯❤️ Meet Zero, our adorable 6-month-old, 40-pound puppy wrapped up in the prettiest white package, and trust us, this is one sweet treat you don't want to pass up! 🍬🤍 Handsome? ABSOLUTELY! 😍 Friendly? You bet! 🐶 Playful? He's a PUPPY! 🎾 Sweet and loving? OH, YES! 💕 Ready to learn and please? YOU KNOW IT! 🥰 Zero is what we like to call a PUPPY SPONGE! He's at that wonderful age where he's ready to soak up everything you teach him. With a little guidance, consistency, and lots of love, this boy has all the makings of an incredible lifelong companion. And at 40 pounds already, this white-wrapped bundle of sweetness is growing into quite the handsome boy! 🤍🐾 Zero doesn't need to be a perfect, fully trained dog today.
