Ellen M. Gifford Sheltering Home
Our Mission
Gifford Cat Shelter provides a safe, nurturing haven for stray, abused, and unwanted cats until they are matched with their permanent, loving forever homes. As America's first no-kill, free-roam animal shelter, we believe that every cat deserves a life free from pain and fear, with a bright future ahead.
Why We Are Here
Founded on the belief that all cats deserve a chance, we serve as a vital resource for our community. We recognize that families may face hardships, which is why we expanded our mission to include a cat food pantry to help keep beloved pets in their original homes whenever possible.
Our Care Model
At our Brighton facility, cats live in a free-roam environment where they can nap in sunny windows, exercise, and socialize while awaiting adoption. For those who need extra care—such as kittens, nursing mothers, or cats recovering from surgery—our dedicated network of foster families provides a supportive, quiet home environment tailored to their individual recovery needs.
The Perfect Match
We believe that adoption is a deeply personal experience, which is why our process is calm, thoughtful, and personalized. Our adoption counselors take the time to truly know each cat’s personality and needs, working closely with you to ensure a harmonious match that leads to a lifetime of happiness for both you and your new feline friend.
