At Berkshire Humane Society, our mission is to ensure the compassionate care, treatment, and placement of companion animals while improving the welfare of all animals through education and outreach. We are proud to be The Place for Your Compassion.
Serving the Berkshires Since 1992
Founded in 1992 as a private, nonprofit, open-admission shelter, we serve as an essential resource for Berkshire County and surrounding areas. We are a socially conscious organization that receives no local, state, or federal funding, relying instead on the generosity of our community to provide a second chance for the thousands of animals who come through our doors each year.
Our Care Model
As the only open-admission shelter in the Berkshires, we provide a safe harbor for all companion animals, regardless of their age, breed, temperament, or health. From our state-of-the-art facility on Barker Road in Pittsfield to our dedicated Purradise feline adoption center in Great Barrington, we are committed to providing every animal with the highest standard of care while they await their forever families.

6/27 - Have you seen this iguana? Pittsfield Animal Control asks for public's help locating missing lizard
Pittsfield Police Department's Animal Control unit is on the lookout for Yoda, an orange/green iguana that's between 3 1/2 and 4 feet long.
6/18 - MSPCA kicks off summer with adoptathon for certain dogs
The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and two other shelters will be waiving adoption fees for certain dogs this weekend.
6/12 - Pet Supply Drive to Benefit the Berkshire Humane Society
The Pet Supply Drive to benefit BHS is happening throughout June.
