At the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society (MRFRS), we exist to improve the lives of all cats and provide meaningful support and education to the people who care for them. We are dedicated to being a loud, proud advocate for every feline friend in our community.
Our journey began in 1992, when a small group of dedicated people came together to help over 300 free-roaming cats along the Newburyport waterfront. By pioneering early Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts, we demonstrated that compassionate, proactive care can transform the lives of cats in need. Over three decades later, that initial act of kindness has grown into a widespread mission that has assisted over 151,000 cats.
We operate as a no-kill adoption center in Salisbury, Massachusetts, housing up to 60 cats and kittens, while also running an extensive, low-cost mobile spay/neuter service called The Catmobile. Our work is powered by a community of dedicated staff and volunteers who provide everything from emergency veterinary support to specialized foster care for those needing extra love. By combining professional shelter care with community outreach, we ensure cats get the support they need at every stage of life.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and we are committed to helping you find the perfect match for your home and lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a playful kitten or a wise senior cat, our counselors are here to help you get to know our residents and understand their unique personalities. We believe that when you adopt, you are not just giving a cat a home—you are creating space for us to rescue another cat in need.
