The Humane Society of South Central Michigan is dedicated to enhancing the lives of companion animals and people through compassionate education, thoughtful adoption, and community outreach. Since 1887, we have served as a dedicated advocate and sanctuary for animals in need.
For over a century, our organization has provided a vital sanctuary for companion animals across Calhoun County and parts of Kalamazoo, Barry, and Branch counties. As a private, nonprofit organization, we operate independently without tax dollar support or national affiliations, relying entirely on the generosity of neighbors who care about homeless pets.
Our facility on Watkins Road serves as a safe haven for up to 100 animals daily, providing medical care, socialization, and temperament testing. We believe in providing quality, consistent care for every animal, keeping them with us until we find their perfect, permanent match. By operating as a limited-admission facility, we ensure that every pet in our care receives the time and attention they deserve to thrive.
We believe in the power of second chances and the unique joy that a rescue pet brings into a home. Our adoption process is designed to create lasting, successful partnerships between people and animals, focusing on the specific needs and personality of each pet. Whether you are looking for a playful companion or a calm friend, our team works closely with you to ensure a meaningful, lifelong connection.
We invite you to start your journey toward adoption by viewing our current residents online or by reaching out to our team.
