Our Mission
Second Chance Cats of West Michigan is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing a second chance to at-risk cats in need of a fresh start. We strive to help felines who require extra time, patience, and compassion to lead a full, healthy life.
Our Story and Community
Founded in 2021, we emerged to support cats at municipal shelters facing the risk of euthanasia or managing complex medical needs. We believe that the capacity to help animals is not limited by our physical space, but is instead defined by the strength of our community working together.
How We Operate
We are a dedicated, all-volunteer organization that operates through a blend of foster homes and our cozy Adoption Center in Grand Rapids. By focusing our resources on these at-risk shelter animals, we create a safe, enriching environment where they can learn to trust again while awaiting their forever families.

10/13 - Meet bonded FIV+ cats Tilly and Smudge! 🖤🤍 These gorgeous long haired kitties were found in a ditch with a soaked bag of cat food next to them 😿 They made their way to SCCWM and were adopted, but were recently returned when their adopter could no longer keep them 😿 Twice, they’ve gone through heartbreak 💔 We hope that the third times a charm for them! They are both gentle and sweet, and have beautiful, fluffy coats. What makes them extra special is the little fur floofs sprouting from their feet! They are adorable!! In their adoptive home, Tilly was known to be more of the affectionate one but here at the shelter Smudge absolutely adores belly rubs. 💕 They both like to play especially with a wand toy! 10/12 - Paris and Claudia deserve their own forever homes 💕 They aren’t outgoing cats, but they are wonderful girls who love a good play session and a cozy nap spot! They’d be the purrrrfect low key companions in your life ♥️ They aren’t considered bonded, and don’t need to be adopted together (although that would be great!). 9/29 - How has Riley not been scooped up yet??? Seriously. We don’t know how this gorgeous, sweet girl hasn’t been adopted. She LOVES toys, LOVES, cuddles, LOVES attention, and LOVES other cats! 💕 When she was in foster, her foster mom would receive lots of little kitten kisses and her lap was immediately claimed by Riley as soon as she sat down. She definitely needs a home with another kitty friend. Maybe a double adoption will happen! 🙀 What are you waiting for???
