The Eva Burrell Animal Shelter believes in the power to effect change one animal at a time. We are committed to being worthy of the trust placed in us as we lead by example, learn from our companions, and provide a voice for those in our care.
Named after the woman who operated our county's first home-based shelter for 19 years, our current facility in Manistique, Michigan, has been serving the community since 1999. Our building was constructed entirely by volunteers using donated materials, reflecting the deep dedication of those who believe every animal deserves a quality life.
As a quality-of-life shelter, we focus on both the physical and emotional well-being of our residents. We utilize dog playgroups to provide essential stimulation and reduce kennel stress, while our cats enjoy plenty of socialization from our dedicated volunteer team. Every animal in our care is spayed or neutered, microchipped, and receives initial vaccinations, ensuring they are healthy and ready for their next chapter.
Adoption is a rewarding partnership, and our staff works hard to understand the unique temperament of every pet. By spending time getting to know each animal—from their play style to their social habits—we strive to make an accurate match that fits your household. We believe that welcoming a shelter pet into your home not only changes their world, but also brings immense joy and fulfillment to your own.
