Greater Hillsdale Humane Society

Our Mission

Since 1974, the Greater Hillsdale Humane Society has been dedicated to the welfare and protection of animals. We are committed to relieving suffering and preventing cruelty while helping orphaned, injured, and abused pets lead happy, healthy lives.

Our Commitment to Care

As an independent, 501(c)3 nonprofit operating under no-kill standards, we rely solely on the generosity of our community to provide safe shelter, nutritious care, and medical attention. Our facility recently underwent a major remodel to ensure our dogs and cats enjoy the best possible mental and physical well-being while waiting for their forever homes.

A Thoughtful Approach

We believe the best adoption experiences happen when we focus on personality and lifestyle compatibility. Our team provides private meeting rooms where you can spend quality time with potential companions, ensuring a perfect, lasting fit for your family.

Join Our Community

Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or simply visit, we invite you to experience the rewarding work happening at our shelter. Every donation and adoption supports our mission to provide second chances to pets in need.

Visit Us

We welcome you to visit us in Osseo, Michigan, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. Our staff is ready to help you meet your new best friend and guide you through our adoption process, which typically results in same-day adoptions for our residents.

10/9 - We’re heartbroken to share that we made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize Rascal. ❤️‍🩹 We know so many of you have been rooting for Rascal to find his furever home, and we wanted to share this update with everyone who has followed his journey and loved him along the way. Rascal had been doing AMAZING. He was back to his old, goofy self, and we were so hopeful for him. Then, suddenly, things took a turn. He began experiencing cluster seizures and was suffering, and we knew we had to make the kindest decision for him. One thing we’re grateful for is that Rascal had an incredible evening yesterday after we closed. He spent time zooming around the play yard with Shay, being his silly self and having so much fun. We’re so glad his last evening was filled with joy, love, and the freedom to just be Rascal. ❤️ Our GHHS team stayed by his side, making sure he was surrounded by love and comfort. He was not alone when he passed, and we made sure he knew just how loved he was. Rascal deserved a furever home of his own, and we are devastated that we couldn’t make that happen for him. Thank you to everyone who cheered him on, shared his story, and held out hope for him. He may not have found his family, but he was part of ours, and he will be deeply missed. 🐾

9/29 - Waylon is out here showing off his good-boy skills! He knows his name, he’s doing great on his walk, and he’s officially a certified GOOD BOY. 🥹 One of Waylon’s favorite things is getting out for a hike, and he would absolutely love a walking or hiking buddy of his own. He has plenty of energy and would love someone who enjoys getting outside and exploring with him! Empty the Shelters ends in just 2 days, and Waylon is STILL waiting. He’s been with us since 3/21/25. Could you be his person? 🐶 Waylon is looking for a cat-free, single-pet home. With an approved application, his adoption fee is completely waived through Empty the Shelters!

9/25 - Slapjack’s adoption fee has been sponsored for #EmptyTheShelters! This handsome fella has been with us since April, and has been overlooked since he is special needs. Slapjack has ‘puffy pad disease’- ” an immune-mediated condition that causes soft, swollen, and sometimes painful or ulcerated paw pads. It is managed long term by steroids and antibiotics. He is also front declawed so he needs to be a strictly indoor kitty! Slapjack would love a home where he can be your one and only- he’s not a fan of animals. We would recommend kids 10+. Come and visit sweet Slapjack- he has come such a long way since being in the shelter, and he’s ready for his furever home!
