Shiawassee Humane Society
Our Mission
The Shiawassee Humane Society is dedicated to enhancing the lives of pets and their people by providing the resources necessary to keep animals happy, healthy, and safe. We believe in creating brighter futures through compassion, community support, and a commitment to animal well-being.
Who We Are
As a local, private, and independent animal welfare organization, we rely entirely on the generosity of donors like you to provide food, shelter, and medical care for the animals in our community. We do not receive any tax dollars or government funding, which makes your support and engagement truly vital to our success. Since we operate independently, every gift and volunteer hour stays right here to assist pets in Shiawassee County.
How We Help
Our work goes beyond the shelter walls to support the bond between pets and their families. Through our donation-based pet food pantry and connections to low-cost spay/neuter services, we strive to keep pets in their homes whenever possible. When animals arrive at our facility in Owosso, they are cared for by a dedicated team that manages everything from daily feeding and grooming to behavior enrichment and finding their perfect forever homes.
The Journey to Adoption
Every animal in our care is a unique individual, and we take great pride in finding the right match for both the pet and the adopter. By utilizing a strong network of foster volunteers who provide essential one-on-one care, we ensure our animals receive the socialization and support they need to thrive. We invite you to join us in this mission by meeting our current residents, volunteering your time, or becoming a foster caregiver.
