Our Mission
At K-9 Stray Rescue League, our mission is to give dogs and people a better chance at a life together through rescue, care, adoption, and education. We believe that every dog deserves a safe place to land and a future filled with love.
Our Story
Founded in 1990, we have been providing thoughtful, responsible rescue for over three decades. As a Michigan nonprofit, we are committed to giving dogs from high-volume shelters—often those with medical needs or uncertain pasts—the second chance they truly deserve.
How We Help
Our work is rooted in compassion, patience, and a deep respect for each dog’s unique story. Through collaboration with shelter partners, fosters, and dedicated veterinarians, we ensure every dog receives individualized care and medical attention, including vaccinations, spay/neuter services, and health checks, throughout their stay at our facility in Oxford.

We choose every dog we welcome with great care, focusing on temperament and overall well-being to set both the animal and their new family up for success. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all adoptions; instead, we prioritize thoughtful matching to ensure a joyful, lifelong bond between you and your new companion. We are here to help you navigate this transition, whether you are looking for a gentle senior or a playful puppy.

No appointment is needed to meet our adoptable dogs during our open hours. You can also join us at our recurring adoption events or visit our website to view our current residents and fill out an application. Together, we can help more dogs find the loving homes they have been waiting for.

But while they’re with us, they become part of the K9 family. 10/3 - 🐾❤️ 𝗢𝗨𝗧 & 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗞𝟵 𝗗𝗢𝗚𝗦! ❤️🐾 What a beautiful day for some of our dogs to get out of the kennel, explore the community and soak up some extra love! ☀️🐶 🎃 𝗣𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗼, 𝗗𝗮𝗶𝘀𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘆𝗮 spent the day at the 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹, where they received lots of attention, pets and love! A huge thank you to 𝗟𝘆𝗻𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲 for helping our pups get out there and meet the community. ❤️ 🐾 Meanwhile, 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿 made quite the perfect pair on their Petco adventure! Thank you to 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗲, 𝗞𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗹 for giving these boys such a wonderful day away from the kennel. Days like today mean so much to our dogs. 9/30 - Eight years old? Yep. 90 pounds? Yep. 𝐀𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫? Apparently ALSO yep. ⭐ Deuce has been showing off his skills, and we think this handsome guy deserves a little recognition! Most of the time, Deuce is exactly what you’d expect from a big ol’ guy—calm, laid-back and perfectly happy hanging out with his people. But then he gets one of those playful bursts and suddenly… 𝐃𝐄𝐔𝐂𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐒 𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐆𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐓. 😂 And this boy isn’t just athletic. He’s SMART! 🎓 Sit 🎓 Down 🎓 High five 🎓 Shake 🎓 Wait 🎓 Stay 🎓 Off 🎓 Leave it He’s also fully house trained, loves hikes and car rides, and especially enjoys spending time with his people and other dogs. ❤️ Deuce is currently in foster with an older male dog and a younger female—and he’s doing great! 🐾 About 8 years old | 90 lbs 🐶 Dog friendly 🏡 Fully house trained 🥾 Loves hikes & adventures 🚗 Car ride enthusiast 👩❤️👨 Adult-only home 🌳 Fenced yard preferred Deuce needs a knowledgeable, active adopter who will continue providing structure, boundaries and opportunities to keep that big brain AND big body busy. 9/17 - There are certain dogs who become volunteer favorites. Not because we want them to stay. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. Mara is one of those dogs. ❤️ She’s about a year old, around 40 pounds, and she’s smart, funny, playful and full of personality. Our volunteers have had the chance to see all the little things that don’t always come through in an adoption photo. We’ve watched her learn. We’ve watched her play. We’ve watched her climb into laps. We’ve watched her proudly carry around her beloved tennis balls. 🎾😂 And we’ve all wondered the same thing: 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫? Mara has attended training and knows sit, down, stay, watch me, place, bow and circle. She’s great in the car, loves adventures and can happily entertain herself when her people are busy. And yes, tennis balls are basically her currency. 🎾 Mara does need to be the only dog in her home, and children should be 13+. We know that narrows her options. But Mara isn’t looking for EVERY home. 𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐎𝐍𝐄. One family who wants a smart, entertaining little sidekick. One couch where she’s allowed to curl up. One basket overflowing with tennis balls.
