Great Lakes Humane Society

A Dedicated Haven for Animals

Great Lakes Humane Society is a non-profit animal welfare organization committed to advocating for all animals by providing shelter, medical care, and a bridge to permanent, loving homes.

Our Roots and Inspiration

Founded in 2002 by Linda Gottwald, our organization was born from the spirit of a little dog named Frannie. Her legacy drives us to serve abandoned and neglected animals, ensuring they never have to face life's challenges alone.

How We Care for Our Residents

Since 2010, we have operated a ten-acre shelter facility near Traverse City, Michigan, designed to provide a warm, home-like atmosphere for our residents. Our dogs enjoy spacious yards, comfortable sofas, and a relaxed environment as they await their perfect matches.

Your Role in Our Mission

We believe every animal deserves a second chance, regardless of their background, breed, or age. By working with local and international partners, we bring diverse personalities into our care, and we invite you to experience the joy of adoption by meeting our residents during an appointment.

Connect With Us

As an all-volunteer organization, we rely on the compassion of our community to help our animals thrive. We invite you to view our available pets online, consider volunteering your time to cuddle or walk our dogs, or support our medical care efforts through a tax-deductible donation.
