Shelter to Home is dedicated to saving animals from shelters in our community by placing them into loving foster care until they find their permanent forever homes. We strive to create sustainable solutions to build a no-kill community where every animal is treated with dignity and respect.
Founded in 2007, our organization began as an informal grassroots effort sparked by a simple act of compassion for a mother cat and her kittens found living in the cold. Fueled by a desire to challenge broken shelter practices, we have since grown to rescue over 5,000 animals from city pounds and local shelters throughout the Downriver, Michigan area.
Our life-saving work is made possible through a dedicated network of volunteers and our unique Pet Adoption Center in Wyandotte. We prioritize a foster-based model, which allows our animals to decompress and reveal their true personalities in a home-like environment rather than a stressful cage. By providing necessary medical care and social support, we prepare each animal for their next chapter.
We believe every adoption is a partnership, and our team works closely with you to ensure a meaningful, long-term match. Whether you are meeting our cats at our cozy, cage-free Adoption Center or connecting with a foster parent for a dog adoption, we are here to support you in finding the perfect companion. Our volunteers are deeply invested in the animals they care for and are eager to share insights to help your new family member thrive.
We invite you to experience the joy of rescue by visiting our Pet Adoption Center on Saturdays or browsing our currently adoptable pets online. Your support, whether through adoption, fostering, or attending our community events, helps us continue our mission of providing second chances to animals in need.
