Our Mission
Shelter to Home is dedicated to saving animals from shelters in our community by placing them into loving foster care until permanent homes are found, while creating sustainable solutions to achieve a no-kill community.
Our Story
What started as an informal, grassroots effort in 2006 to save a mother cat and her kittens in the winter grew into an official organization in 2007. We were fueled by the desire to challenge the regressive shelter practices that led to the killing of animals. Since our founding, we have proudly rescued over 5,000 animals, providing each individual with the dignity and second chance they deserve.
Our Care Model
We work primarily in the Downriver, Michigan area, rescuing animals from city pounds and shelters. Our model centers on foster care, which allows our animals to decompress and thrive in home environments rather than stressful cages. Additionally, we operate a unique Pet Adoption Center in Wyandotte, Michigan, providing a home-like setting for potential adopters to meet their future companions.
