Great River Rescue
Our Mission
At Great River Rescue, we are dedicated to transitioning dogs and cats into loving homes, serving as a vital community resource, and advocating for kind, responsible pet care. We envision a society where every animal is treated with the respect and care they deserve.
A Legacy of Compassion
Since our inception in 1977, we have been proud to help thousands of animals find a second chance at life. Located in Bemidji, Minnesota, we operate as a private, non-profit organization that relies on the strength of our community to provide essential services and care for over 350 animals annually.
Our Care Model
We strive to provide a safe, enriching environment for every animal at our facility on Carr Lake Road. While our shelter environment is tailored for comfort, we also utilize a dedicated foster program to support animals needing extra healing or specialized attention. By maintaining high standards of professional and ethical care, we ensure each cat and dog receives the attention they need before meeting their forever family.
Your Journey to Adoption
Finding your new best friend is a joyful partnership, and we are here to guide you through a thoughtful matching process. We encourage you to visit our shelter, spend one-on-one time with potential companions, and bring along your current pets for introductions to ensure a perfect fit. Because we prioritize these personal connections, we invite you to schedule an appointment so we can dedicate our full attention to your search.
