The Marshmallow Animal Shelter is dedicated to improving our community by reuniting the lost with their families and advocating for those animals still waiting for their forever homes. We believe in providing a safe, compassionate haven for every companion animal that comes through our doors.
Who We Are
Located in Detroit Lakes, MN, we serve as a vital public resource for stray, abandoned, and rescued companion animals across Becker County. We are proud to be a no-kill facility, achieving this status by exceeding a 90% save rate for the cats and dogs in our care.
How We Care
Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers works tirelessly every day to provide for animals who have nowhere else to go. Because we are committed to their well-being, we do not impose time limits on their stay, offering extended care to ensure every animal is happy, healthy, and ready for their next chapter.

We take the time to get to know our animals, though we remind adopters that shelter life is ever-changing and we recommend a post-adoption wellness exam to ensure your new friend gets the best possible start.
