Marshmallow Foundation
Our Mission
The Marshmallow Animal Shelter is dedicated to improving our community by reuniting lost pets with their families and advocating for those still searching for a place to call home. We believe every animal deserves a second chance at a happy, loving life.
Why We Are Here
Located in Detroit Lakes, MN, we serve as a vital public resource for stray, abandoned, and rescued companion animals. We were founded to support Becker County and surrounding cities, providing a safe haven for animals that have nowhere else to go.
How We Care
We are proud of our commitment to our residents, maintaining a no-kill status by focusing on long-term care rather than time limits. Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide a warm, safe environment for roughly 70 cats and 20 dogs on average while they await their forever families. We are also proud to collaborate with regional service dog training programs and local police departments to help our shelter dogs serve the community in meaningful ways.
The Perfect Match
We strive for a forever home rather than just a faster home, which is why we take a thoughtful approach to our adoption process. Our goal is to create a rewarding, lifelong partnership between our pets and their new families by ensuring the needs of both are fully met. Whether you are looking for a playful companion or a gentle senior, we are here to help you find the right match.
