The Pope County Humane Society is dedicated to helping pets in need within our community and surrounding areas through compassionate sheltering, adoption, education, and community outreach. We strive to provide every animal in our care with a clean, comfortable, and safe environment while they wait for their forever families.
Established in 1985 and incorporated in 1987, our organization began humbly in a barn thanks to the efforts of June Iverson, Lorraine Gandrud, and Willow Feigum. Through the generosity and helping hands of our amazing community, we grew from those modest beginnings into the physical shelter facility we operate today.
As a 501(c)3 non-profit and Minnesota-licensed kennel, we take pride in maintaining high standards for animal housing, safety, and medical care. Our shelter is run by a dedicated team who pours their hearts into the daily care of every lost, abandoned, or stray animal that comes through our doors. We also utilize foster homes to provide additional space and support until our residents are ready to be placed in adoptive homes.
We believe that successful adoptions are built on thoughtful connections, which is why we focus on matching each animal with a lifestyle that fits both their needs and yours. By filling out a pre-application, you help our staff get to know you, ensuring a smooth transition for your new best friend. We are committed to transparency and provide complete medical information to help you feel confident in your decision to adopt.
Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or support us through our Class Act Thrift Shop, there are many ways to make a difference. We invite you to visit our shelter or browse our available pets online to find a companion who will change your life. Together, we can continue providing second chances for the animals who need us most.
