Our Mission

The Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter is passionately devoted to the care of animals in need, providing dedicated rescue, shelter, adoption, and veterinary services to our central Minnesota community.

A History of Compassion

Since our founding in 1999, we have been committed to giving animals a second chance. Over the last quarter-century, our mission has grown from humble beginnings as a foster-based group to a dedicated facility, helping more than 10,000 animals find their forever homes along the way.

How We Care

We operate with a deep commitment to animal welfare, managing a facility west of Hutchinson that includes specialized spaces for our cats and dogs. Our dedicated team, including an operations manager, veterinary technician, and kennel staff, works daily to ensure every resident receives the medical care, nutrition, and safe environment they need while they wait for their new families.

10/23 - UPDATE: Gracie has been adopted! Sometimes, the best way to honor the love that came before is to give it a chance to bloom again. Meet Gracie. Gracie is a 5-year-old, spayed girl who has experienced the heartbreak of losing the person she loved most. Her beloved owner passed away with Gracie faithfully by her side. ❤️ Her family tried their best to keep her, but it became clear that Gracie wasn’t happy in her new situation. Wanting what was best for her, they reached out to us for help finding her a fresh start. Now, it’s Gracie’s turn to find someone special to love her through her next chapter. She may not be the life of the party, but she has her own special qualities and deserves a home where she can feel safe, comfortable, and understood. Gracie has been through a lot of change, and what she needs most now is stability, patience, and a place where she can finally relax and just be herself. She deserves a home that understands her needs and loves her for who she is. Gracie was very stressed coming into the shelter, but day by day, she's beginning to trust and we are seeing bits and pieces of the wonderful companion waiting for a new start. Please consider giving Gracie the loving home she deserves.
