The Brown County Humane Society is dedicated to being an advocate for the appropriate treatment of animals, promoting education on humane care, and encouraging the adoption of pets into responsible, loving homes.
Founded in 1981 as a 501(c)3 non-profit, we began our journey as a foster-based organization before opening our first shelter in north New Ulm. In 2004, we moved to our present location at 1301 South Valley Street to better serve the Brown County area by sheltering lost and unwanted animals.
We are proud to be a 100 percent volunteer-run, no-kill shelter with no paid staff. Every day, our compassionate volunteers work tirelessly to feed, walk, clean, and train the dogs and cats in our care, ensuring they are happy, healthy, and ready to meet their future families.
Adoption is a meaningful partnership, and we strive to make the perfect match between our shelter pets and your family. Because we want every adoption to be a lasting success, our process involves thoughtful matching, including opportunities for household members to meet our pets to ensure compatibility.
We invite you to experience the rewarding journey of welcoming a new companion into your life. Please visit our Petfinder page to view our current residents, or join us at our shelter on Saturdays from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. You are also welcome to call us at 507-359-2312 to schedule an appointment if these hours do not fit your schedule. We look forward to helping you find a friend for life.
