Founded in 2010 after an encounter with an abandoned dog named Hope, our organization has grown from a personal mission into an extraordinary 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We focus on rescuing animals from neglect, abandonment, and overpopulation, serving communities throughout Minnesota and beyond.
Our Foster-Based Commitment
Ruff Start Rescue is a 100% foster-based organization, meaning our animals live in loving volunteer homes rather than traditional kennels. This approach provides a supportive, family-like environment that helps pets settle in, recover, and prepare for their forever homes. By prioritizing home environments, we ensure that each animal receives personalized care and socialization before they ever meet their new families.
