Pet Haven is dedicated to improving the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats. We lead with love, striving for a future in Minnesota where every pet lives in a safe, cherished home.
Our Story
Founded in 1952, Pet Haven holds the distinction of being Minnesota’s first foster-based rescue. For over 70 years, we have remained committed to being a vital community resource, working to keep families together and providing compassionate support for pets in need.
Our Care Model
We are a foster-based rescue, meaning every animal in our care lives within a loving home until they find their permanent family. This environment allows us to provide high-quality food, expert veterinary care, and behavioral support, helping every pet express their unique personality while recovering from trauma or illness. By learning their temperaments firsthand in a home setting, we ensure they receive the specialized attention they deserve to become their best selves.

Adoption is a joyful journey, and our goal is to build lasting foundations by finding the perfect match for both you and your new companion. We work closely with prospective adopters to ensure a thoughtful, successful transition that keeps pets out of the sheltering system. Because we believe in lifelong commitments, we provide pre- and post-adoption support, ensuring that every Pet Haven alum always has a safe place to land.

10/5 - Paws On Grand Raises Money, Connects Pets With New Homes | Community Reporter
One nonprofit, Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue, raised more than $1,200 through a warm-water dog wash at Frattallone’s Hardware, according to GABA Executive Director Kim O’Brien, while other activities raised hundreds of dollars for participating shelters and rescue organizations.

10/18 - Twyla is a sweet, magnetic, joyful cat who is looking for a loving home. Twyla brings pure joy to play and love. A cat sitter said it best, Twyla’s affection is magnetic. Her purr and head butts are almost instantaneous. Chin scratches always lead to rolling over for belly rubs. Twyla loves to be right next to her foster parents wherever possible. She likes to keep her feet on the floor, but she can easily be picked up to move her around. Twyla is an exuberant playmate. She loves when her foster parents swing a wand with a faux squirrel tail. When she plays on her own, dining through tunnels to get spring toys is her favorite. Twyla has an adorable head tilt because she came to Pet Haven with a long-standing middle ear infection. Pet Haven enlisted the help of a specialist to give Twyla the best care. She had a procedure and she's ready for her next chapter. Twyla has slight balance issues that may improve over time. Twyla came from a home with many cats. She is timid in new situations. She may need some time to warm up and would probably do best with adults and older children. Twyla would enjoy cat companionship in her adoptive family. She is very interested in the various cats in her foster home. She met a small dog who was accustomed to cats and she was relaxed. Twyla uses the litter box properly. She enjoys canned cat food, and crunchy Greenies treats. Apply with @pethavenmn

10/9 - Dancing for donations!!! We’re spending $1,300 every 2 weeks on kitten food, with no signs of slowing. If you want to support our mission, donating kitten food is a great way! We rely on donations to keep all of our essential services running, including providing fosters with food and supplies, and running our community food shelf. We couldn’t do this without you, and recognize that this is a two way street. So, we will keep caring, organizing, providing, and DANCING, if you keep donating!! Thank you to our amazing facilities manager, Josh, who keeps everything running smoothly at our on site facility, and Simon, our volunteer manager who manages to keep everyone smiling. We couldn’t do this work without them, and when the work gets tough, everyone needs a good laugh!! 10/7 - You don’t have to be ready for a decades long commitment to make a huge difference in an animal’s life. Fostering with Pet Haven gives you the chance to experience the joy of having a pet while Pet Haven covers the costs of their care. You provide the home, the time, and the love. We provide the supplies, veterinary care, and support. For people who love animals but aren’t quite ready for permanent pet ownership, fostering is a way to lend your heart and home when an animal needs it most. 10/6 - Sugar Plum is a very special 12-year-old Rat Terrier who weighs just 10 pounds, and has no shortage of ways to make you smile. She was found outside as a stray, blind and scared. Since coming to Pet Haven and getting the care she needed, we’ve gotten to see a very different side of her. She’s spunky, social, and happiest when she’s curled up next to someone or sitting in their lap. She likes being involved in whatever is happening and will make sure you know when she wants to be picked up or included! Sugar Plum is diabetic and gets insulin twice a day, which she handles very well. She’s mostly blind and recently had an eye removed, but she learns new spaces quickly and responds to cues that help her get around like “careful!” She’s also down to just a few teeth, which works out nicely for a lady passionate about wet food. She’s house trained, sleeps well in her playpen at night, and settles nicely when left alone. She’s comfortable around calm dogs and cats, and she’d do best in a quiet home without children under 13. She isn’t interested in long walks or a busy schedule. She’d much rather stay inside, stay warm, and be close to her people. After everything she’s been through, Sugar Plum is ready for a home that can give her the stability and companionship she deserves. We’ve shared her story a few times, and the people love her! Unfortunately, we’re still waiting for someone to choose her. 9/29 - Meet one of our very special Pet Haven alumni, Clover. Her story is one of resilience, patience, strength, and yet another series of yeses. Clover came into Pet Haven’s care while a volunteer was at a shelter in Bloomington picking up a litter of kittens. After seeing Clover’s condition, the volunteer knew she couldn’t leave without her. At Pet Haven, we take pride in being a safety net for overlooked animals. For those who need a bit more care, attention, and resources. Our role, in an industry that’s often overcrowded and under resourced, is to offer dignity to these animals that otherwise have nowhere to go. Clover, and all the cats and dogs who have similar stories, is our WHY. Her healing journey was long and tedious, but her foster paid close attention to her progress and struggles. Under the watchful eye of our dedicated vet staff, Clovers wounds slowly healed, and her personality started to shine. Now, she’s almost completely healed, and is back to being a happy, silly, carefree companion. Her family is so grateful for her health, and notes that since her adoption, “She’s started to love playing with toys, which we were told not to expect based on how she behaved in her foster home.” We know that what we do works. 9/25 - Sweet Winnie has been through a lot in her 11 years. She’s got an amazing, sweet, gentle personality, and loves to be a companion. Now, she needs a home of her own. ❤️ Winnie needs to find her next home by October 4, and we’re hoping her person is out there. 9/23 - Surprise, it’s another Lovey update! We know you missed him, and so did we! He’s doing great in his foster home, and is growing and healing everyday.
