As one of the nation's leading animal welfare organizations, we serve the Minnesota community by providing direct care and support to thousands of animals in need each year. We go beyond traditional shelter services, offering low-cost veterinary care, food support, and outreach to ensure pets remain happy and healthy with the families who love them.

We operate with an open-admission philosophy, providing a safe harbor for every animal surrendered to us, regardless of their health, age, or behavior. Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide expert medical care, behavioral evaluation, and enrichment, ensuring that every animal receives the support they need to thrive. We never place time limits on the animals in our care, allowing each one the opportunity to find their perfect match.

10/14 - October is Pit Bull Awareness Month and we’re celebrating sweet pups like Daphne, our @purina-Pet-of-the-Week! 🐾 This 6-year-old pit bull mix has stolen the hearts of our staff and volunteers with her gentle personality and love for snuggles! 🩵 Daphne may be shy at first, but she has so much love to give. She enjoys leisurely walks, watching the world go by, and practicing her sit skills for tasty treats. Most of all, she loves soaking up affection! 10/7 - The shelter environment can be stressful for many animals, and the busy adoption floor isn’t always the right place for every animal. That’s why Animal Humane Society has a Hidden Gem program. Animals who need a calmer space can stay in a quieter area with less activity. Designated staff can introduce them to potential adopters in a setting where they feel more comfortable and can let their personalities shine. Programs like Hidden Gem help us meet animals where they are and give them the support they need while they wait for a home. 🩵

9/23 - Remember these cute kittens and their unique little outfits? If you’re interested in making some, here’s how! You’ll need fleece, scissors, a ruler, Velcro, and a sewing machine or needle and thread. 🧵 Draw a 7-inch circle with a 1.5-inch circle in the center, then cut a straight line from the outer edge to the center. ✂️ Cut two matching pieces of fleece. Sew around the edges with a half-inch seam, leaving one end open. Flip it inside out, then sew the opening closed. Add Velcro to each end, and you’re done! These kittens and many others are grateful for crafty animal lovers like you. 🩵 These E-collars help keep kittens safe and comfortable while they recover from surgery.
