Northwoods Humane Society

Our Mission

Our mission is to enhance the lives of pets in need and the people who care about them. We envision a community where every animal, and the relationship between people and pets, is valued and cherished.

Our History

Incorporated in 1975 as the Chisago County Humane Society, our organization was founded by citizens dedicated to the welfare of homeless animals. Today, as the Northwoods Humane Society, we operate as a private, independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving as the community’s only animal shelter in Wyoming, Minnesota.

Our Care Model

We are a limited-admissions facility, operating with transparency and compassion to ensure every pet receives quality care. We do not place time limits on our animals' stays, and we prioritize finding the best placement for each individual, whether through adoption, foster programs, or working with partner rescue organizations.

The Adopter Connection

Adopting a new pet is a joyful, lifelong commitment, and we are here to help make that transition a success. We encourage you to carefully consider your lifestyle, family needs, and expectations before adding a new member to your household. Our team is dedicated to providing the information you need to ensure a perfect, lasting partnership.

10/8 - UPDATE: Adopted! Spotlight on 3 month old Sookie: I was found outside all by myself so was brought into Mpls Animal Control and then transferred to Northwoods. When I first came in, I was a little nervous but you can't blame me for being in new environments. Within just a few days though, I am now out of my shell and absolutely the sweetest girl! I have a low and deep purr that lets you know how content I truly am. I'm very excited to start my new life with a family! Good with dogs: possibly with a proper introduction Good with cats: possibly with a proper introduction Good with children: possibly with a proper introduction. Not sure if very young children would be too much for her.
