Southern Pines Animal Shelter is dedicated to nurturing the bond between people and pets through community, compassion, and collaboration. We aim to forge a path toward sustainable, responsible, and community-driven lifesaving for animals in need.

In 2023, we were proud to achieve a lifesaving rate of over 97.7%. Our work is centered on bridging the gap between people, pets, and essential resources to ensure our community’s animals are safe, cared for, and treated with kindness.
How We Save Lives
We believe in providing the best quality of care to every animal that enters our doors, from specialized foster programs and underage care to our innovative EmBark Transport Program. Our approach includes creating access to affordable veterinary care, promoting wellness, and focusing on spay and neuter services to reduce pet overpopulation. By fostering a spirit of education and collaboration, we work to build a community of compassionate pet owners.

10/8 - SPAS holds grand opening for Petal’s ‘Second Chance’ thrift shop
A grand opening was held Thursday for the Petal location of Second Chance Thrift Shop.
9/10 - Animal Shelter seeking help after security footage shows car ramming through entrance gate
Development Director Dani Snell said their first priority was making sure all animals were present and accounted for. There was no other damage aside from the gate, but Snell said the incident came at a rather difficult time.
8/19 - Hattiesburg City Council approves sidewalk funding, arts program and Southern Pines agreement
Hattiesburg City Council approved several agreements and project changes during its Tuesday meeting, including additional funding for the Grace Avenue sidewalk project, an arts and theatre program for local elementary students and a renewed agreement with Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
8/15 - Southern Pines to open new thrift shop in Petal Sept. 1
A third thrift shop is opening to support Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
7/25 - Local animal shelters offer adoption deals for PetSmart Charities’ National Adoption Week
It’s National Adoption Week for PetSmart Charities, and the Hub City Humane Society and Southern Pines Animal Shelter are offering the public a chance to bring a new friend home.
6/11 - Southern Pines Animal Shelter seeking new owners for abandoned cats
Over 30 cats and kittens were abandoned next to their dumpster, and while this may seem like a good landing spot for the felines, Development Director Dani Snell says it presents a problem for the shelter.

9/22 - Practicing their best vampire impressions... 🎃 Heidi and Hinnegan are just a few of the 11 kittens looking for a cozy place to grow, play, and show off those Halloween pranks!
