At the Polk County Humane Society, we are dedicated to ensuring a lifetime of safety, love, and companionship for lost, abandoned, and unwanted pets. We provide a safe, no-kill environment where every animal is given a meaningful second chance at happiness.
Founded in 1991 by a group of concerned citizens, our organization has grown significantly to help more than 1,000 animals annually. We proudly serve Polk County, Missouri, and provide vital assistance to surrounding areas that lack the resources to support animals in need.
Our dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for our rescues. We operate as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, relying on the generous support of our community to fund the shelter care, medical treatments, and spay/neuter services that help reduce pet overpopulation. Our success is built upon the collaborative efforts of our board members, staff, and foster families who provide love and care while pets await their forever homes.
We believe that adoption is a joyful, lifelong partnership, and we strive to make the process as clear and successful as possible. To ensure a great fit, we encourage potential adopters to schedule an appointment to meet our animals, as some of our pets reside in foster homes or may have prior meet-and-greet commitments. Our goal is to connect every pet with a responsible, committed, and loving family.
Whether you are ready to open your heart to a new companion or wish to support our work, we invite you to explore our available animals online.
