Central Missouri Humane Society

Our Mission

The Central Missouri Humane Society is devoted to promoting the well-being of companion animals and putting pets with the people who love them. We envision a future where every mid-Missouri pet finds a loving home and is treated with the compassion they deserve.

A Legacy of Care

In continuous operation since 1943, we have grown from a small building on Creasy Springs Road to our dedicated facility on Big Bear Boulevard in Columbia. As an independent organization not affiliated with any national groups, we rely on the generosity of our community to continue our vital work for over 2,000 animals each year.

Our Compassionate Approach

We pride ourselves on a transparent model of care that utilizes both our shelter facility and a network of over 100 dedicated foster homes. This blend allows us to provide a safe, healthy environment for cats, dogs, and small animals while they await their forever families. Our veterinary team works tirelessly to provide essential care, ensuring that every pet is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before heading home.

Your New Best Friend

Adopting an animal is a lifelong commitment, and we are here to nurture that journey from your very first click on our website to the moment you walk out the door together. We believe in creating thoughtful, lasting matches between our residents and members of our community. By choosing to adopt, you become a partner in our mission and a hero to a pet in need of a fresh start.

Join Our Community

Are you ready to find your perfect companion? We invite you to explore our list of adoptable animals online or visit our shelter to meet our residents in person. We are excited to help you welcome a new furry family member into your home!
