Shep’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary is dedicated to providing a safe, loving, and permanent home for senior dogs who have been unable to find families in shelters. We believe every older dog deserves a dignified, comfortable life surrounded by care and companionship.
Founded in April 2019 in Independence, Missouri, our sanctuary is named after Shep, a stray adopted by our founders who taught them the profound joy of loving an older dog. His legacy inspired us to create a refuge for seniors, ensuring that dogs who have spent their lives waiting in shelters finally find the support they deserve.
We operate out of a renovated home, prioritizing a family-like atmosphere where dogs can roam, play, and rest comfortably rather than living in traditional kennel environments. Our dedicated volunteers provide the medical care, socialization, and affection these dogs need to thrive in their golden years. We are currently working toward expanding our facility to help even more seniors in need.
While our sanctuary serves as a forever home for many, we are always overjoyed when a perfect family comes forward to welcome one of our residents into their own home. Our adoption process is thoughtful and thorough, designed to ensure a lasting match that protects the happiness and well-being of both the dog and their new owners. Because we require a meet-and-greet and home visit, we facilitate adoptions within a 100-mile radius of our location.
If you are looking to bring a sweet, seasoned companion into your life, we invite you to view our adoptable dogs on Petfinder or complete an adoption application on our website. Whether you choose to adopt, foster, or support our mission, you are helping us create a brighter future for senior dogs. We look forward to starting a new friendship with you soon!
