KC Pet Project
Building a Compassionate Community
KC Pet Project is dedicated to creating a compassionate and safe community for both pets and people. We work every day to provide second chances to over 16,000 animals in need, serving as an innovative leader in animal welfare.
Our Journey
Founded in 2011 by devoted animal advocates, we were born from a vision of a better life for Kansas City’s shelter animals. Since taking over operations of the city’s shelter in 2012, we have remained committed to providing a safe refuge for animals regardless of their health, age, breed, or temperament.
How We Care
As an open-admission, no-kill organization, we rely on a blend of community support, foster homes, and our dedicated shelter facilities in Swope Park and beyond. Our programs go far beyond traditional sheltering to include pet support, rehoming assistance, and our Keep ‘Em Together, KC initiative, which helps families stay united during times of hardship.
Your Partner in Adoption
We believe that finding your new best friend should be a joyful, personalized experience. Our team works hard to match you with the pet that is right for your unique family, with no blanket rules to stand in your way. Whether you meet your match at our main campus, our Zona Rosa center, or one of our community partner locations, you are supported by our counselors every step of the way.
Find Your New Best Friend
Are you ready to meet your next companion? We invite you to browse our available pets online in real-time or visit any of our locations seven days a week to start your journey. Your support, whether through adoption, volunteering, or donating, makes our lifesaving mission possible.
