Crestwood Animal Shelter

Crestwood Animal Shelter

Our Mission

Crestwood Animal Shelter is a dedicated, all-volunteer, non-profit organization serving Crestwood, Missouri, and its surrounding communities. We strive to provide a safe, compassionate, and no-kill haven for cats and kittens while working tirelessly to find them their perfect forever homes.

Our History and Purpose

Our journey began in 2009 as an auxiliary group supporting local animal control, and we have since grown into an independent shelter dedicated to the welfare of animals. Since 2014, our organization, Friends of Animal Control and Rescue (FOACAR), has operated as Crestwood Animal Shelter, providing a consistent, loving environment for local cats in need.

How We Operate

We are a small, volunteer-run facility located within Whitecliff Park, where we provide a temporary home for a variety of cats and kittens. Because we are entirely volunteer-based and operate a small facility, we function by appointment only to ensure each animal receives the dedicated time and care they deserve. This focused environment allows our 40-60 local volunteers to maintain high standards of care as we prepare each cat for a successful transition into their next chapter.

The Adopter Connection

We believe that every adoption is a meaningful partnership that enriches both the pet's life and yours. We pride ourselves on taking the time to match each individual cat with the perfect family, ensuring a happy and healthy long-term connection. Our goal is to assist you in finding a lifelong companion, providing support and resources for responsible pet ownership along the way.

Join Our Mission

If you are ready to welcome a new member into your family, we invite you to view our available cats on Petfinder or Adopt-a-Pet. To begin the process, please submit our online adoption application, and a member of our team will be in touch to schedule an appointment for you to meet your future best friend. We look forward to helping you find your perfect match!

10/11 - For Black Cat Awareness Month, we asked our community to share the black cats they love — and you absolutely delivered. There’s Chloe, aka Coco, a CAS alum adopted by Lacey in 2021, whose adoption story started with a very memorable mix-up over whether “Baybe” was a boy or a girl. 😂 These days, Coco is the family’s little mother hen, checking on the kids, supervising bathroom trips and keeping watch from the top of the refrigerator. Morticia is Kati’s beloved void. Nigel belongs to Donna. Mr. Eddie, loved by Emma, is 13 years old. Franky was found abandoned at an I-44 rest area in Saint Clair. Now he loves belly rubs, snuggles and being spoiled by Kimberly. Jack Skellington was saved from animal control by Tenth Life Cat Rescue and became Angela’s beloved “Pumpkin King.” Momo started as an injured, stressed foster from APA who wouldn’t eat at the shelter. Amy took him home to foster, he became a foster fail, gained four pounds, found his voice — loudly — and has now apparently decided the newest kitten, Ron, belongs to him too. Different beginnings. Different personalities. Different families. But one thing they all have in common? They are deeply loved. That’s the part of black cat stories we want people to see. 🖤 We’d love to keep this going every week throughout Black Cat Awareness Month. Have a black cat of your own? Send us a photo or video in Messenger, along with their name and a little about what makes them special. Your cat could be featured in an upcoming post. 🖤 Thank you to Lacey G., Kati S., Donna F., Emma C., Kimberly H., Angela E. and Amy P. for sharing your beautiful black cats with us. #BlackCatAwarenessMonth #BlackCatLove #BlackCats #VoidCats #CrestwoodAnimalShelter

10/9 - The 3 D’s have reviewed the situation. Apparently, the problem is not a lack of good looks. 😂 Dolly, Darlin & Dean have been waiting for someone to notice that they are four months old, sweet, playful, ridiculously good-looking and ready for homes. Dean would also like it formally noted that he is adorable. Darlin would like everyone to know there are literally photos proving this. Dolly purrs. She feels this is important information. So while they continue competing with approximately 47 billion cat videos on the internet, maybe you can help these three beat the algorithm. 🐾 Share their reel. Tag someone who’s been talking about adopting. Or apply to meet one of the 3 D’s. Apply to adopt Dolly, Darlin or Dean. 10/7 - You may have noticed we’re posting a lot of cats right now. There’s a very good reason. 🐾 We currently have several cats who have had time to decompress, settle in and when needed, be socialized and now they’re ready for homes. So yes, you’re going to see them. A lot. 😻 The more people who see them, the better their chances of finding the right family. And when one of our cats is adopted, that opens space and resources so we can help another cat who needs us. That’s why your shares, comments and reactions matter so much. Every bit of engagement helps these cats reach more people, and sometimes all it takes is one share reaching the right person. If you have local friends who love cats, invite them to follow our page too. You never know when someone may be looking for another cat to love. ❤️ Thank you for helping us get these cats seen and into loving homes. 📸 Photos courtesy of CAS Volunteers #CrestwoodAnimalShelter #AdoptDontShop #StLouisCats #CatsForAdoption #ShelterCats #SupportYourLocalShelter #CatLovers

10/6 - Jameson has references and they’re pretty enthusiastic. 🖤 “My favorite cuddle buddy.” —Amanda “Handsome AND SNUGGLY!” —Kate “He climbs onto my shoulder and nuzzles.” —Lisa When we asked about Jameson, the people who spend time with him had plenty to say. Cuddles, purrs, head butts, kisses—this boy has been winning hearts all around the shelter. Open his apartment door, and he may climb onto your shoulders for a greeting. Sit on the floor, and he’ll join you for rubs. Some volunteers describe him curling into their arms and purring. Then there’s his little meow, a sound you really need to hear for yourself. Jameson spent about seven years living in a colony with other cats. He arrived needing veterinary care for dental issues and a shave to remove severe matting. His beautiful black coat is finally growing back. At the shelter, his attention is on the volunteers rather than the other cats. He enjoys his visits, then heads back to his own space when he’s ready. His person should recognize when he needs a break, as he may give a gentle nip when overstimulated. Jameson is FIV-positive, which we’ve explored throughout our education series. Our adoption team can answer questions about his care and help you decide whether your home is a good fit. He already has a fan club. Now we’d love to find him a person to come home to. Could that be you? Start with an adoption application, and our team will follow up to arrange a meeting: https://crestwoodanimalshelter.com/adoptions Jameson’s petfinder profile: https://www.petfinder.com/cat/jameson-47274ffd-8472-42a8-ab49-07d0d268304d/mo/crestwood/crestwood-animal-shelter-mo219/details/ 📸 Videos courtesy of CAS Volunteers #MeetJameson #FIVPositiveCats #AdoptFIVCats #CrestwoodAnimalShelter #StLouisCats #AdoptDontShop

10/5 - Meet Dean 🐾 Dean. Dean Bean. Houdini. He’s four months old and already has enough aliases to make us suspicious. 😹 Dean is a playful, friendly little guy with big golden eyes, an impressive fluffy tail and those ears. We assume he’ll grow into them. Eventually. He loves to play, investigate whatever has caught his attention and spend time with his sisters, Dolly and Darlin. He’s a sweet brother and an all-around cool little kitten who has already earned quite a fan club among the volunteers. As for the nickname Houdini? Well… some things are better experienced than explained. Dean is ready to take his talents somewhere new—preferably a forever home with plenty of toys and someone who appreciates a kitten with a little character. 💙 Think Dean Bean belongs with you? 🐾 Our adoption process: Complete an application at crestwoodanimalshelter.com/adoptions and we will contact you for an appointment to meet Dean. 📸 Photos courtesy of CAS Volunteers #CrestwoodAnimalShelter #MeetDean #DeanBean #AdoptDean #AdoptAKitten #RescueKitten #StLouisCats #StLouisAdoptions #AdoptDontShop

10/5 - Meet Darlin 🐾 Some kittens are cute. Darlin decided to be unforgettable. 🧡 This little tortie has one of those faces you have to look at twice—big golden eyes, a beautifully mottled coat and that tiny orange stripe running right down the center of her face. Darlin is a Domestic Shorthair tortoiseshell and one of three siblings—Dolly, Dean and Darlin. We told you these were some seriously cool kittens, and Darlin is doing her part to prove it. She’s ready to trade her shelter apartment for the good stuff: a home, a family and a lifetime of being somebody’s Darlin. ❤️ Think it could be you? 🐾 Our adoption process: Complete an application at crestwoodanimalshelter.com/adoptions and we will contact you for an appointment to meet Darlin. 📸 Photos courtesy of CAS Volunteers #CrestwoodAnimalShelter #MeetDarlin #AdoptDarlin #Tortie #TortoiseshellCat #AdoptAKitten #StLouisCats #StLouisAdoptions #AdoptDontShop

10/5 - Meet Dolly 🐾 Some kittens make you work for their affection. Dolly apparently didn’t get that memo. 💕 This sweet little girl is a purr baby and she has the kind of face that makes it very difficult to stop taking pictures of her. Dolly is a Domestic Shorthair with a gorgeous tabico coat—a mix of tabby markings with patches of orange and white. And yes, she really is as adorable in person as she looks in these photos. She came to us with her siblings, Dean and Darlin and now this little trio is getting ready for the best part: finding their families. If Dolly has already caught your attention, don’t wait for her to send you an application herself. She doesn’t have thumbs. 😹 🐾 Our adoption process: Complete an application at crestwoodanimalshelter.com/adoptions and we will contact you for an appointment to meet Dolly. 📸 Photos courtesy of CAS Volunteers #CrestwoodAnimalShelter #AdoptDolly #AdoptAKitten #Tabico #StLouisCats #StLouisAdoptions #RescueKittens #AdoptDontShop

10/3 - Stanley here. We need to discuss the current hiring situation. First, Sylvia got adopted. Good for Sylvia. Truly. I’m happy for her. Then Trixie got promoted to free-roam status, which means there is now another woman wandering around the workplace unsupervised. And Momma Chrissie? She’s brought in more girls. More. Girls. Look, I like the ladies. I do. Some of my best coworkers are ladies. But a guy needs some quality boy time. Someone to discuss important things with. 🐈 Who has the best window seat. 🐈 Whether dinner is late. 🐈 Why the humans insist on interrupting perfectly good naps. You know. Guy stuff. At this point, I’m beginning to think Momma Chrissie has a very different vision for the Boys Club than I do. 😹 — Stanley Still advocating for the Boys Club 📸 Photo courtesy of CAS Volunteers #StanleySays #CrestwoodAnimalShelter #ShelterCats #RescueCats #AdoptDontShop #CatLife #StLouisCats #ShelterLife #CatsOfFacebook #FunnyCats #BoysClub #AdoptLocal

10/2 - Well, Stanley has some paperwork to update. 😹 Sylvia has officially left the office. This time, it’s because she got the promotion we wanted most for her: 🏡 ADOPTED. If you’ve followed Sylvia’s story, you know just how big this is. She arrived at the shelter spending much of her time tucked beneath her blanket, watching the world from a place that felt safe. Then, little by little, things changed. She ventured out. She earned free-roam privileges. She started greeting volunteers at the door. She followed us around while we worked and somewhere along the way, the cat who once preferred the safety of her blanket decided she was ready to be part of everything. Now she gets to continue that story somewhere even better. At home. 💙 Happy adoption, Sylvia. We’re going to miss seeing your face at the office door—but this is exactly the kind of resignation we love to receive. 🐾 These are Sylvia’s first photos from her new home, shared with us by her new family. #CrestwoodAnimalShelter #Adopted #HappyTails #ShelterCat #CatAdoption #AdoptDontShop #StLouisCats #RescueCats
