Since 1870, the Humane Society of Missouri has been dedicated to giving animals in need the second chance they deserve. We strive to end the cycle of abuse and pet overpopulation through dedicated rescue, investigation, and education efforts.
Founded just four years after the American ASPCA, our organization has spent over 150 years working toward a community where every animal is treated with kindness. From our humble beginnings in a one-room office in St. Louis, we have grown into the state's largest animal shelter, committed to creating lasting, loving bonds between people and their pets.
We provide a safe haven for animals through our shelters in St. Louis and Maryland Heights, as well as our Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Union, Missouri. Our team is supported by the Animal Cruelty Task Force, which works to remove animals from danger, alongside world-class veterinary care at our Animal Medical Centers of Mid-America. We believe in building a future of compassion by teaching empathy through our diverse educational programming and community outreach.
Adoption is a wonderful journey that starts with finding the perfect match for your family and lifestyle. We are committed to placing thousands of pets in forever homes annually, ensuring that each animal receives the thoughtful support they need to thrive. Our adoption process is designed to help you prepare for a lifelong, fulfilling partnership with your new best friend.
Are you ready to welcome a new companion into your life? We invite you to browse our adoptable animals online or visit one of our adoption centers to meet the pets currently waiting for their second chances. Whether you are looking for a loyal dog, a playful cat, or a charming small critter, your perfect companion is waiting to meet you today.
