Our History and Community Impact
Founded by admirers of Henry Bergh, we have spent over 150 years working to ensure the welfare of all animals. Today, we address critical community needs by housing the Animal Cruelty Task Force, providing low-cost spay/neuter services through Operation SNIP, and offering comprehensive veterinary care at our Animal Medical Centers of Mid-America.

As the largest animal shelter in Missouri, we take pride in maintaining a safe and caring environment for the thousands of pets we serve annually. Whether an animal is in our care at our Macklind Avenue headquarters, our Best Buddy Pet Center, or our Longmeadow Rescue Ranch, they receive dedicated attention and medical support.
