The Franklin County Humane Society promotes animal and human welfare through the dedicated care and adoption of homeless animals, alongside programs that enrich lives through meaningful animal interaction.
Since our incorporation in 1981, we have been committed to serving the lost, abandoned, and homeless dogs and cats in our area. Originally operating as a foster network, we opened our current shelter location in Union, Missouri, in 1994 to better meet the needs of pets across Franklin County and surrounding regions.
As the only open-admission animal shelter within a 40-mile radius, we provide compassionate treatment and essential medical care to animals in need. We are a privately run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies entirely on donations, grants, and adoption fees rather than government funding to sustain our life-saving work. Through fostering, transportation, and dedicated educational outreach, we strive to reduce pet overpopulation and ensure every animal has a second chance.
Adopting a companion animal is a wonderful, life-changing commitment that we are honored to support. Our staff works closely with you and your family to find a pet that perfectly aligns with your lifestyle, ensuring a happy and lasting partnership for years to come. We encourage you to visit us to meet our residents, as this personal connection is the first step toward building a new life with your future best friend.
Whether you are ready to open your home to a new companion or want to contribute to our mission, we welcome you to join our community. Please visit our website to browse our currently adoptable pets, explore our volunteer opportunities, or learn how your support helps us continue our vital work for local animals. We look forward to meeting you soon at our shelter in Union.
