Stafford Animal Shelter prevents animal distress by caring for displaced animals, facilitating adoptions and reunions, minimizing pet overpopulation, and pioneering humane education and community outreach.
Founded in 1986 by local advocates, we became the Stafford Animal Shelter in 1999 thanks to a generous gift from Frances Stafford. After our facility was devastated by the 2022 Yellowstone flooding, the strength and support of our community allowed us to fully rebuild and reopen in January 2023.
As the only nonprofit animal shelter in Park County, we provide a safe haven for domesticated pets regardless of age, breed, or medical condition, and we operate without length-of-stay restrictions. Beyond our dog and cat wings, we maintain a unique Zoo area that cares for a wide range of animals including birds, reptiles, rodents, and exotic species.
We believe in an open, in-person adoption process designed to create lifelong matches between pets and their new families. Our dedicated team is here to help you navigate your choices, sharing resources to ensure a successful, happy transition for both you and your new companion. Because we treat every animal and situation as unique, we focus on personal conversations rather than restrictive requirements.
We invite you to discover your new best friend by visiting our shelter in Livingston, Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Whether you are looking to adopt, volunteer, or simply learn more about our work, we are here to help. You can view our currently available animals online or stop by the shelter at 3 Business Park Road to meet them in person.
