Thompson River Animal Care Shelter
Our Mission
The Thompson River Animal Care Shelter (TRACS) is dedicated to the welfare of animals in Western Montana and beyond. We provide a safe haven and a compassionate second chance for lost, homeless, neglected, and abused animals until they find their loving forever homes.
Our Commitment to Care
Since our founding in Thompson Falls, we have grown into a vital community resource that assists over 1,100 homeless pets annually. Our commitment is to provide a comprehensive package of services that ensures every animal in our care receives the medical attention they need to thrive. Every pet adopted through TRACS is healthy, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered before heading home.
How We Operate
Our shelter operates as a central hub for animal care, supported by a network of foster homes that provide additional space and comfort for pets awaiting adoption. By working with local community members and partners across state lines, we maximize our impact and reach. Because we have a limited staff, we kindly ask that you contact us before visiting so that we can ensure an adoption assistant is ready to help you find the right companion.
The Adopter Connection
We believe in the power of responsible guardianship and the lasting bond between humans and animals. Our adoption process is designed to foster successful, long-term partnerships by matching pets with individuals who are prepared to provide humane treatment and a loving, healthy environment. We are here to support you throughout the journey, from your initial application to the joyful moment you bring your new family member home.
