Hearts United for Animals is a no-kill, nonprofit organization dedicated to relieving the suffering of domestic animals by providing quality shelter, sanctuary, and adoptions. We believe every creature deserves love, and we work tirelessly to ensure that no animal is left behind.
Founded in 1989 by Dennis and Carol Wheeler in the beautiful rolling hills of Auburn, Nebraska, our organization began as a way to address the needs of homeless and unwanted dogs in the region. Over the past three decades, we have grown into a nationally recognized refuge that has saved the lives of thousands of cats and dogs. Today, we honor the legacy of our founders by continuing their vital work of healing broken hearts and finding forever homes for animals in need.
At our state-of-the-art facility, we provide a safe haven where animals receive compassionate, individualized care. Beyond sanctuary and adoption services, we are committed to animal welfare through our low-cost spay/neuter clinic, the Proud Pets Program for veterans, and Tia's Place, which offers refuge to pets of families fleeing domestic violence. These programs reflect our holistic approach to keeping pets and people together.
We strive to match each animal with the home that best meets their individual needs, ensuring a successful transition for both you and your new best friend. Our adoption process focuses on thoughtful connections, with our dedicated team staying in touch to offer advice and support long after you bring your pet home. We celebrate every adoption as a new chapter of hope and happiness.
