The McCook Humane Society is dedicated to keeping pets safe, happy, and healthy while providing them with a temporary home on their journey to finding permanent, loving families. Since 1983, we have worked tirelessly to serve the animals and citizens of Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas.
Our organization was founded by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to improve the lives of stray animals in our community. Through years of diligent volunteer labor and the generous support of our neighbors, we built our facility on South Street to ensure neglected and abandoned animals have a safe place to land.
As a No Kill shelter, we are committed to giving every animal in our care the best opportunity for a future. Our dedicated team provides a temporary home for puppies, kittens, and adult dogs and cats, ensuring each pet receives age-appropriate vaccinations and professional spay or neuter surgeries. We operate as an independent, private, non-profit organization focused on animal welfare and education in responsible pet ownership.
Adoption is a joyful partnership, and our team is here to help you find your family's perfect match. When you visit us, please bring a valid photo ID and any family members necessary to finalize the adoption process so we can ensure a smooth transition for both you and your new furry companion.
Whether you are ready to adopt, interested in volunteering, or want to support us through our Adopt-a-Kennel program, there are many ways to get involved. We invite you to visit our shelter on South Street to meet our current residents or contact us to learn more about how you can support our mission. We look forward to welcoming you!
