The Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska is dedicated to the care of animals, education in responsible pet ownership, and finding loving homes for the homeless. We believe that by creating a community of resources and solutions, we can transform the lives of unwanted, sick, and homeless pets while reinforcing the bond between people and their animal companions.
Our Journey to Our New Home
Our story began in 1995 as a grassroots coalition of dedicated foster families aiming to address a lack of shelter facilities across five counties. After years of hard work, we opened our doors to our current facility in 2016, transitioning from a foster-only network to a brick-and-mortar hub. Today, we serve as a vital community resource, supported entirely by the generosity of our donors.
Care and Compassion
Since opening our shelter, we have saved over 6,000 animals, offering them a safe, healing environment. Our pets receive comprehensive medical treatment, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, deworming, flea prevention, and microchipping. We are also proud to offer unique programs like Paws for Hope, which provides safe, confidential housing for pets of domestic violence survivors and those facing personal crises.

10/20 - Here’s the story on Mr. Skip… He’s been here and back and around the block too many times and has now been with us the longest time of the all the current pups! We want to see him go home THIS WEEK. 👀🐾 Come meet him and see how smart and sweet he truly is! He prefers female dogs and we aren’t sure how he is with cats. But he deserves to break out of here once and for all! 🥺
