Holt County Animal Shelter
Our Mission
The Holt County Animal Shelter is dedicated to fostering healthy, lasting companionship between humans and animals. We strive to enhance the appreciation of our four-legged friends, prevent abuse, and celebrate the intrinsic value of every dog in our care.
Our Story
We began in 2006 when a group of concerned citizens united to address the needs of stray dogs in our community. What started as an all-volunteer effort has blossomed into a dedicated organization that found a permanent home in O’Neill in 2013, thanks to a generous land and building donation.
How We Care
We are a private, non-profit, no-kill shelter funded entirely by the generosity of our community members. Our team provides a safe, nurturing environment where stray, surrendered, and abandoned dogs can thrive while waiting for their forever homes. By offering daily care, social interaction, and enrichment programs, we ensure every dog receives the love and attention they deserve.
Finding Your Perfect Companion
We believe every dog deserves the chance to be a cherished family member. Our simple, transparent adoption process focuses on creating successful, joyful partnerships between people and pets. Whether you are looking for a hiking buddy or a couch companion, our team is here to help you make a match that will change your life—and theirs—forever.
