Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter
Our Mission
Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter is dedicated to building a community where people and organizations work together to save today's homeless animals and prevent the neglect of tomorrow's. We believe every dog and cat deserves a permanent, loving home.
A Legacy of Compassion
For more than 53 years, we have served as a pillar of care for animals in need. While our primary focus is rescuing abandoned and neglected animals locally, we also partner with shelters nationwide to save vulnerable pets at risk of euthanasia, ensuring they have the opportunity to thrive.
Our Fear Free Approach
As a no-kill shelter, we never euthanize for time or space; every animal in our care is safe until they find their forever home. We are a proud Fear Free facility, utilizing specialized techniques to reduce stress and anxiety for our residents. From our free-roaming catteries to our enriching kennel programs, we provide a nurturing environment supported by dedicated staff and a vital foster network.
Finding Your Perfect Match
We believe every adopter is a great partner, and our team of counselors and trainers is here to help you find the pet that fits your unique lifestyle. We focus on transparent, thoughtful matching because we want your new bond to be lifelong. When you adopt from us, you receive a healthy, microchipped, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered pet ready to become a cherished family member.

We invite you to experience the joy of rescue for yourself. Visit us in East Hanover to meet our adoptable animals, or explore our website to complete an adoption questionnaire. Your journey toward meeting your new best friend starts here.

10/10 - 🍒❤️ MEET CHERRY JELLO! SHE'S WOBBLY, WONDERFUL, AND ABSOLUTELY IRRESISTIBLE! ❤️🍒 Meet Cherry Jello, affectionately known as CJ, a 3½-month-old kitten with a whole lot of love packed into one adorable little body. 🥹🐾 CJ has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), a neurological condition that affects her coordination and balance. Her CH is moderate, which means she has some pretty noticeable wobbles as she makes her way through the world. But here's what CJ wants you to know… SHE DOESN'T CARE THAT SHE WOBBLES! 😂❤️ She's got toys to chase, people to love, and important kitten business to attend to! She may not always get from Point A to Point B in a straight line, but she's going to have an absolutely wonderful time trying! CH isn't painful or progressive, and with a safe, loving home and a few accommodations, kittens like CJ can enjoy happy, fulfilling lives. ❤️ CJ doesn't need pity. She needs someone who sees beyond her wobbles and falls completely in love with the incredible little kitten she is. At just 3½ months old, she has her whole life ahead of her. All she's missing is a family to share it with. 🐾 Come meet CJ at Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter! 🕒 Monday–Friday: 12–4 PM Saturday & Sunday: 12–5 PM 🚪 Walk-ins welcome! 🍒 She may wobble when she walks, but she'll have no trouble finding her way into your heart. ❤️ #CherryJello #MeetCJ #CHCats #WobblyCats #SpecialNeedsCats #AdoptCJ #MtPleasantAnimalShelter #AdoptDontShop #EveryLifeMatters

10/9 - 🚨🍔 BREAKING NEWS: ARIES HAS REACHED THE PROMISED LAND!!! 🍟🐾 IT HAPPENED. IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. After weeks of hearing whispered legends about a magical place where humans drive up to a window and FOOD JUST APPEARS, ARIES HAS FINALLY MADE IT TO THE MAGIC WINDOW!!! 🤯🤣 Thanks to a Anne, Kathy and Jag, who apparently have absolutely no problem enabling his delusions, Aries embarked on the journey of a lifetime. 🚗 He got in the car. 👀 He spotted the window. 🍔 He witnessed the miracle. AND NOW HE BELIEVES IN MAGIC. Aries would like to thank his volunteer accomplices, the inventor of drive-thrus, and whatever higher power decided that food should be handed directly into automobiles. He is currently accepting applications for a forever family with a vehicle, a valid driver's license, and absolutely no objections to frequent visits to the sacred window. Aries has tasted the good life. There is no going back. 🤣❤️ 📍 Mt.
