Northern Ocean County Animal Facility

A Heart for Our Community Pets

The Ocean County Animal Facility is dedicated to providing temporary housing and essential care for cats and dogs in need across Ocean County. Our mission is to ensure every animal in our care receives a safe, healthy environment while they await their forever home.

Serving Ocean County

With two dedicated locations in Jackson and Manahawkin, we serve as a vital resource for local families and pets. Our shelters are equipped with indoor and outdoor dog runs, cat rooms, and dedicated medical facilities to ensure the comfort and well-being of every resident during their stay.

Comprehensive Care and Transparency

We believe in preparing our animals for a successful transition into your family. Every pet adopted through our facility is spayed or neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and has received a thorough health exam by our facility veterinarian.

Finding Your Perfect Companion

Adoption is a wonderful journey, and we are here to help you make a lifelong match. We require all household members—including current dogs—to meet our available pets, ensuring a harmonious and happy introduction for everyone involved. Because we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, we encourage potential adopters to come prepared with their documentation to begin the process.

Costumes, creativity, and plenty of four-legged fun will take center stage at the 18th Annual FurFest & Halloween Pet Parade, returning to the Southern Ocean County Animal Facility (SOCAF) on October 24, 2026. Pet parents and their families are invited to bring their costumed companions for an afternoon of Halloween fun. Registration begins at 1 p.m., with the parade and costume judging kicking off at 1:30 p.m. “FurFest has become a wonderful Ocean County tradition that brings families together in a way that is both fun and memorable,” said Jennifier Bacchione, Ocean County Commissioner Deputy Director and liaison to the Ocean County Board of Health. “There is something special about seeing the creativity people put into their pets’ costumes and watching everyone enjoy the afternoon together. Whether you come to participate, cheer on the contestants, or adopt one of our adorable cats and dogs, FurFest is a great way to celebrate the Halloween season.” Four-legged participants will have the chance to compete for prizes and ribbons in several fun-filled categories, including: • Scariest • Best Group • Funniest • Most Original • Best in Show And no Halloween celebration would be complete without treats! Every pet participating in the parade will receive a goodie bag filled with goodies—because at FurFest, there are plenty of treats and no tricks! “Every year, FurFest gives us a chance to celebrate the special bond between people and their pets,” said Daniel Regenye, OCHD Public Health Coordinator. “It’s also a great opportunity for the community to visit the shelter, meet our dedicated staff and volunteers, and learn more about the wonderful animals waiting for their forever homes.” Beyond the costumes and competition, FurFest provides an opportunity to highlight the cats, kittens, and dogs currently available for adoption through the Ocean County Animal Facilities. For families considering adding a new member to their household, the event is a chance to meet some of the animals looking for loving, permanent homes. Every dog and cat adopted from the Ocean County Animal Facilities receives a veterinary examination, age-appropriate vaccinations, spaying or neutering, and a microchip. So, grab your leash, put on your pet’s favorite costume, and get ready for an afternoon filled with fun, fur, and Halloween spirit at the 16th Annual FurFest & Halloween Pet Parade on October 24, 2026.
